Hello, I am Chiara
Project manager. Parent. An expat living in Milan, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Started
Moving to Italy wasn’t in the long-range plan. As with many expatriate relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more meaningful.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and raised expectations. Daily tasks felt more complex than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of learning on the job. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began crafting something that felt steady.
Why I Built GentlePaperDock
Most online resources were either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Italy.
What This Site Covers (And Isn't)
This site offers:
- Hands-on insights from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever there is a meaningful change
This site does not:
- an official tourism authority resource
- sponsored review site
- a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Italy continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have any questions about family life in Milan or anywhere in Italy, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Best regards,
Chiara
